Hunting Safaris

As hunters return to Africa, their wishlist becomes more selective, and often they start to want to pursue a specific group of animals. This can range from the most big and dangerous to the smallest and most elusive tiny antelope out there.

We offer the following forms of hunting, but should you have any specific needs or wishes for your dream African Safari, please contact us well in advance and we will make sure you get the hunt of a lifetime.

Plains Game Hunting

The majority of foreign hunters will hunt a selection of South Africa’s plains game on their first hunt. It offers fantastic value for money, a very challenging, as well as a very diverse hunt. With South Africa offering the most huntable species on the continent, Amaphisi Safaris offers a wide range of free-range plains game, as well as well as fully self-sustaining herds of animals on large came conservation areas, at an affordable price.

Dangerous Game Hunting

Pursuing buffalo in the thick bush of Zululand is one of the most exciting hunts there is. We have various properties in Kwa-Zulu Natal, mainly in Northern KZN where we hunt these giant bovines, some of them never having been hunted before. Properties are large enough that the herds are completely self-sustaining.

Bushpig Hunting

Although the African Bushpig, potamochoerus larvaus, one of the two native pig species in South Africa, the other being the much more common warthog, are strictly part of what is deemed plains game, they require such a different method of hunting that we have put them under a different heading.

Hunting the Tiny Ten

Hunting the Tiny Ten species in Southern Africa is a great accomplishment for any ethical hunter. Although they are Africa’s smallest antelope they can amount to a lot of hours of hard hunting, patiently stalking through, either, very thick coastal sand forests, savannah thornveld or even dry desert like areas.

Other Means of Hunting

Amaphisi Safaris loves the challenge to cater for the atypical African hunter, wanting something else than the typical, or wanting to use a hunting method different from the the typical accurate rifle and telescope combination to make sure he gets his trophies in the salt.

Reviews

“I have had the distinct pleasure of hunting with Dewald multiple times and in pursuit of a variety of species. What stands out most about him is his ability to adapt to all conditions and experience levels without ever putting the hunter in the position of feeling forced out of their comfort zone. This doesn’t mean the conditions will always be easy or the opportunities to harvest an animal will be abundant and simple. What it means, is that he uses calm and clear explanations to allow you to make a decision that you are comfortable with. As many of you know, that is often the difference between a miserable experience and a successful hunt.

Most of us have dreamt of African hunts and allowed our imagination to run wild with expectations of how it all plays out. In some instances, the real-life experience exceeds the imagination. That only occurs with the assistance of a PH that never takes for granted that you are often seeing things that you have never seen before and may never see again. Remaining wide-eyed with excitement cannot be fabricated, it is simply exuded by a true passion for the experience. Dewald shares that passion with those that choose to take on the pursuit with him.

In my own work, I explain to people that even though the tasks may be difficult, the process can still be fun. Obviously, there is a time for fierce concentration and serious decisions, but a larger amount of time is spent with the mundane and that is when a sense of humor is critical. The hunt is the culmination of months or years of planning and ultimately the purpose is to have fun and enjoy the complete experience. A PH such as Dewald, combines all the traits required to hunt at the highest level and never forget that we are still here to have fun and generate memories that will be shared with generations.

I won’t exaggerate about hunting all over the world with hundreds of guides, but I have done a fair share and when the hunt is over and you are back home with the usual circle of friends and family, you tell them about the people you hunted with. In rare instances, you feel like the guide would be one of those already in your usual circle. Early into my first African hunt with Dewald, I knew that he would be one of those guys that I would be comfortable with in the wild or back home with other family and friends around a fire.”
