Pursuing buffalo in the thick bush of Zululand is one of the most exciting hunts there is. We have various properties in Kwa-Zulu Natal, mainly in Northern KZN where we hunt these giant bovines, some of them never having been hunted before. Properties are large enough that the herds are completely self-sustaining. Trophy buffalo are hunted for age, mass of boss, and character, and hence young bulls with wide-spread horns are left to spread their genetics.
When hunting think skinned dangerous game, it is law that a calibre of at least .375 or larger is used, and we recommend that a client brings a rifle he is comfortable with, having practiced shooting off of shooting sticks before. Bullets should be a minimum of 300gr and of premium quality such as North Fork, Swift A-frame or Barnes TSX. We do not recommend any solids for backup in the case of buffalo, as they often pass through and wound another animal. Should a hunter however wish to not travel with a firearm, both Jason and Dewald have ample capable dangerous game rifles for the client to use.
When hunting Buffalo in Zululand hunters can expect shots to be less than 50 yards, and often having to be taken quite rapidly, on a dark mass of a body in vegetation such as this, with the first picture considered very open terrain.

Concession
Amaphisi has consessions in Zimbabwe as well as Zambia, where we hunt dangerous game as well as plains game. Both of the above concessions also have lion, elephant, hippo, crocodile and leopard. It is important to note that permits for these must be obtained well in advance to secure the trophy.
For the hunter who wishes to hunt lion in South Africa, Amaphisi has two reputable farms in the Kalahari where we hunt lion on foot.
Plains game can obviously be added to a dangerous game safari, as per the pricelist. We recommend at least seven days hunting for buffalo in South Africa, and ten to fourteen days for dangerous game in Zimbabwe or Zambia. Ten days should be ample for buffalo, but for elephant and leopard on bait the longer the better.
Buffalo
In terms of dangerous game, both Jason and Dewald cut their teeth on buffalo, and hunting old Dugga Boys, an African term for lone bulls having been driven out of the herds, and often being regarded as Africa’s most Dangerous game. These are the real buffalo trophies. They are old, past breeding cycles, and they show the signs of a long tough life in the bush – scars from fighting, bite and scratch marks from lion attacks, white faces as they age, hard bosses, and worn-down horns. They are cunning when hunted, often turning on the hunter, and a trophy to be truly proud of.
Pricing
Dangerous game hunting is priced according to the pricelist on the website. Please note different properties in different provinces can have major price differences. That will be quoted in writing and discussed with the hunter well in advance.
